Instructional Continuity
During events such as inclement weather and other scenarios where classes on campus may be cancelled, the University (including Georgetown Law) can choose to operate under the adopted Instructional Continuity policy . The purpose of the policy is to support the continuation of instructional activities through synchronous distance instruction when unforeseen disruptions cause delayed openings or campus closure.
IST is committed to maintaining alignment with the University policy and supporting administrative and instructional continuity on the Law Center campus in the event of planned changes or unplanned University closure. IST provides faculty, staff and students with the software resources needed to connect to classes, people and technology from remote locations.
To this end, the Law Center strongly encourages the use of teleconferencing, web conferencing and online tools to allow classes to meet remotely and to communicate. The Law Center uses Zoom as the web conferencing option that faculty members can use to hold a virtual class meeting. All Georgetown faculty, including adjunct faculty, and staff are provided with an individual Zoom account.
You can find information about IST’s supported tools that can be used for instructional continuity, including Zoom (web/teleconferencing), Canvas (Learning Management System), Lecture Recording, Gmail/GSuite (email) and more by visiting the IST Supported Tools and Training site.
More information about Instructional and Business Continuity and how to prepare can be located on the University Information Services Instructional Continuity site.
Should you need assistance with setting up or testing a Zoom session for instructional continuity, or if you have questions about any of IST’s supported tools as they relate to Instructional Continuity at the Law Center, please contact lawhelp@georgetown.edu, call 202-662-9284 or visit the Technology Service Desk located in McDonough Hall, Room 152.
