Results of the 2019 Student Library Survey

We have concluded the 2019 Annual Student Survey for the Georgetown Law Library.
This year, 173 students responded. Thank you. We appreciate all feedback.

Here’s a quick overview of the representation of student responses:

1L/1E/2E 32.9%
2L/3E 37.6%
3L/4E/4th Year Joint Degree 14.5%
LL.M. & SJD 15.0%

All students who completed the survey were eligible for a prize drawing.  Congratulations to our four student winners:  Emely Toro (JD ’19), Xiaodan Zhang (JD ’20), a law student (JD ’20) and another law student (JD ’21). Each student received either a $50 deposit to his or her GoCard account or a $50 Amazon gift card.

Thank you to all 173 students for participating in this year’s survey. We’ve already started reviewing responses, and we’ll use this input to inform decisions about services and resources.  You can view 2019 quantitative charts and a response summary on our website.

The second-most frequent reason listed is to study in a group study room.  The library will once again provide additional group study rooms during the exam period.  From April 22 through May 13, unassigned Scholar Studies will be available for reservation in addition to our usual 22 group study rooms. Scholar Studies are smaller spaces that accommodate a limited number of students, 2 at maximum. These studies will require only one Law NetID and can be reserved up to 5 hours a day.  Go to the Group Study Rooms reservation page to reserve these study spaces.

In the survey, we received several requests for services or resources that we already offer, and we are pleased to highlight them here. If you have additional questions about any of these, please contact any of our service desks.

Umbrellas and Bookstands

Umbrellas and bookstands are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk in addition to a number of other useful items, such as headphones, computer mice and chargers. Please continue to send your suggestions to us for any other items that you would like the Library to provide.

Staplers and Three-Hole Punches

We have some basic office equipment, such as staplers and three-hole punches in various locations of the Library. A stapler is available on each floor near a printer station, as well as at the Circulation Desk and in the Loewinger Lounge on the left side of the Williams Reading Room. A three-hole punch is available at the Circulation Desk, in the third floor copy room, and in the Loewinger Lounge. More information about office supplies may be found at the bottom of our Printing, Copying, & Scanning webpage

Reference Assistance

Reference Librarians are available to assist you with your research questions at the Reference Desk in the Atrium on the main floor. Reference Desk hours are posted on our website. You can email lawlibref@georgetown.edu, call 202-662-9140, or Chat with a Librarian when the Reference Desk is open. We are also available for individual Research Consultations. Remember, we’re here to help you succeed in your research!

Popular Reading and Movie Collections

Popular magazines and DVDs can be found in the Williams Reading Room near the Loewinger Lounge. The Law Library also purchases some bestsellers and newly published novels each year to add to our Popular Reading Collection. If you like us to consider acquiring a specific movie or novel, please share the title through the suggestions form.

Law students may request popular novels, movies, and games from the main campus’ Lauinger Library, as well as from local academic libraries through the Consortium Loan Service. Conduct a WRLC (Georgetown U. + Consortium) search through our library catalog first and then submit a consortium request. Students may also apply for membership with the D.C. Public Library and gain access to their ebooks and audiobooks and streaming services.
