Beyond the Traditional Casebook
The high cost of textbooks is a perennial issue with law students and faculty alike. Over the years, several platforms have emerged to offer low-cost or free materials. Some of these are: CALI’s eLangdell, Harvard’s H2O, and LawCarta. In addition to affordability, these platforms also provide the ability to modify the content to suit your specific pedagogical goals.
Inside Higher Ed recently published an article examining whether or not such textbooks are open educational resources which may be of interest to professors who are examining their options in this regard.

New Databases
At the Law Center Library:
HeinOnline Business and Legal Aspects of Sports and Entertainment, Houdek, Frank G., editor.; Edmonds, Edmund P., editor.; William S. Hein & Company.; 2019.
This topical database includes legal periodical literature, full-text books and bibliographies, federal and state documents, legislative histories, carefully selected court decisions, and links to relevant external websites. Entertainment-related materials focus on movies, music, television and theater.
ProQuest Regulatory Insight Guidance and Policy– enhancement to our existing database, ProQuest Regulatory Insight:
Guidance documents can be classified by agencies variously, making them difficult to locate or not apparent as being regarded by that agency as guidance.
Therefore, this enhancement adds these documents more comprehensively to eliminate guesswork going from agency to agency on the web. To identify where a specific guidance document came from, click on the Agency Source URLs link at the bottom of the document page. You can also see the date the document was acquired. A final reason for acquiring this enhancement is that agency websites are updated and guidance documents may be archived or deleted from the agency site. ProQuest will retain those archived or deleted guidance documents we have previously acquired.
Also from ProQuest, additional content will be added on a continuous basis this year to the Supreme Court Insight database for the years 1933-1974:
This latest module adds amicus curiae briefs from the American Civil Liberties Union, American Newspaper Publishers, American Friends Service Committee, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and American Jewish Congress. Cases with amicus curiae briefs include Miami Herald Publishing Co. v. Tornillo (First Amendment), Rosado v. Wyman (Public welfare programs), Walz v. Tax Commission of the City of New York (Religion, Taxation). Also included for landmark cases are Transcripts of Record, a content type which preceded the modern Joint Appendices as a source for lower court proceedings related to the Supreme Court case. For example, a case which includes a Transcript of Record is Mapp v. Ohio.
At the Lauinger Library:
African American Police League Records, 1961-1988
Slavery in Antebellum Southern Industries, 1700-1896
