Professor Christensen is a member in Miller & Chevalier’s International Department and concentrates on export controls, sanctions and embargoes under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and various regulations issued by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), as well as compliance processes, assessments and audits. He is the former Vice President for International Trade Content at Vastera, Inc. and he served in the Department of Commerce for eleven years in the Office of Chief Counsel of Export Administration and as Director of the Regulatory Policy Division (1986-1997). In that role, he headed the complete redrafting of the EAR in 1995-1996, the first such rewrite since 1949. He also authored the deemed export rule and coordinated the policy support for the rule prior to its publication. Mr. Christensen has worked in export controls and trade sanctions for more thanĀ 31 years and has been counseling clients on ITAR since 1979. He is the former Acting Director of the Division of Regulatory Policy in the U.S. Department of Commerce. He previously has served as the Assistant Deputy Director for Merger Litigation at the Federal Trade Commission, as the Assistant Regional Director for Antitrust at the FTC Chicago Regional Office, and as the Chief Counsel for Export Administration at the Department of Commerce.
