Krista deBoer is an adjunct faculty for the Negotiations Seminar. She is a practicing attorney at the Newport Beach, California environmental law firm, Bick Law LLP. Her practice focuses on contaminated site cleanup, environmental litigation, regulatory compliance, and enforcement defense in California and the Pacific Northwest. She advises and represents public and corporate clients from an array of sectors, spanning food and beverage, healthcare, residential development, aerospace, defense, and port and irrigation districts.
Prior to joining Bick Law, Professor deBoer was an associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher where she practiced general litigation and was a member of the Environmental Litigation and Mass Tort practice group, focusing primarily on complex litigation at the trial level.
Professor deBoer is a cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School, where her coursework centered on negotiation, dispute resolution, and environmental law and policy. During her tenure as a student, she was a teaching assistant for Harvard Law School’s Negotiation Workshop and for the Harvard Negotiation Institute (HNI), a Lecturer on Law at Boston College, and she did consulting work for the Office of Government Information Services through the Harvard Negotiation and Mediation Clinical Program. She continues to teach negotiation, advanced negotiation, and difficult conversation seminars to corporate and nonprofit clients from a variety of sectors.
Prior to law school, Professor deBoer was a high school English teacher and speech & debate coach. She has been awarded San Dieguito Union High School District Teacher of the Year, and recognized as one of San Diego County’s top ten teachers. Professor deBoer’s debate team consistently ranked among the top 1% in the nation, and she twice earned the National Forensics League diamond coach award for excellence in coaching.
Professor deBoer graduated from the University of Washington magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Speech Communication and English. She later earned a Master’s in Education from Antioch University in Seattle. Professor deBoer is a member of the bars of California and Washington.
