Susan Deller Ross, Professor of Law, Director and Founder of IWHR Clinic

Susan Deller Ross is a Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center and Director and Founder of the IWHR Clinic. Before joining the Georgetown law faculty in 1983, she was Special Counsel for Sex Discrimination Litigation to the U.S. Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. Previously, she was Clinical Director of the Women’s Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union, and an attorney with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She has filed numerous amicus curiae briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court on women’s rights issues and has testified at a number of U.S. congressional hearings concerning sex discrimination. She was one of the attorneys who represented Anita Hill in the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas congressional hearings. In addition to founding and teaching in the IWHR Clinic, Professor Ross has taught Domestic Relations Law and Advocacy and Employment Discrimination Law and Advocacy in Georgetown’s Clinical Programs. She has also taught International and Comparative Law on the Women’s Human Rights, Equal Employment Opportunity Law, Family Law, and Gender and the Law.

Professor Ross has published widely in the area of international women’s rights and speaks regularly to audiences around the world.

Michelle Liu, Supervising Attorney & Teaching Fellow

Michelle Liu is the Clinical Teaching Fellow with the IWHR Clinic. She graduated from George Washington University in 2005 with a degree in business administration and worked as the Financial Controller for a design firm based in New York City. Following her passion for public service, she enlisted as a Peace Corps Volunteer in 2007 and worked to develop small businesses and to empower women and girls in Kenya. At Georgetown Law, she took courses in the fields of human rights and international law and was a student in the IWHR Clinic, where she drafted a women’s rights amendment to the Constitution of Tanzania. During her time in private practice at Linklaters LLP in London, she sought out pro bono opportunities to protect the rights of women around the world. In 2015, Michelle left her job as a corporate attorney to work on Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in Brooklyn, NY. Following the 2016 election, Michelle returned to Georgetown Law to serve as the Assistant Director of Admissions and to recruit and advise the next wave of passionate and talented lawyers and advocates.

Anna Harty, Office Manager
B.A., Xavier University

Anna Harty is the office manager for both the International Women’s Human Rights Clinic and the Domestic Violence Clinic, where she manages the day-to-day operations of both. She graduated from Xavier University with a B.A. in Gender & Diversity Studies. As a Brueggeman Fellow at Xavier, Anna developed an independent study examining the role of gender in conflict resolution and traveled to Uganda to engage in related research. After graduating, Anna did a year of service through Jesuit Volunteer Corps and coordinated legal services for asylum seekers at YMCA International Services in Houston, TX. Her work for the clinics includes referral and docket monitoring for the Domestic Violence Clinic, planning the annual fact-finding trips for the International Women’s Human Rights Clinic, and providing financial and administrative support for both.
